The Preppiest Pumpkin Ever

Although not our First Halloween together, this was our first year to carve a pumpkin. Caleb designed the face (note the pumpkin has a BOWTIE) and my job was to scoop the pumpkin gunk out. I did an excellent job of gunk scooping.

In case you're wondering, yes, that is a 3-foot basil plant. The basil took over the herb garden. You can barely make out the rosemary and parsley on either side of the giant basil. For all you amateur gardeners out there, basil is not supposed to grow that tall.

That's all for the pictures, but I have more to talk about... hooray! Today was Teacher-Parent Conference Day. I was required to contact 14 parents to set up appointments and if they all showed up (drumroll....) I would get a free steak dinner for two! Well, of course we all see where this is going- just when I think the steak dinner is mine all mine, THE LAST PARENT NEVER SHOWED! It was such a bummer.

On the car ride back home to Starkvegas, I contemplated all the other great jobs out there in this world and happened upon what could possibly be the greatest employment opportunity of all time: The person that chooses puzzles for The Wheel. Really- all you have to do is think up phrases or words that can fit within the bounds of the Letter Board, THEN you put into a category. Pure Awesomeness.

One of my favorite shows is on, so peace out. It's "Chuck" by the way. I hope all of you are watching it because it's hilarious.

It's been a while!

I've decided to come back from my blogging hiatus (hiatis? spelling?) There's just not enough time in the day and no way around the internet blocker at school to be able to blog as much as I'd like. I'm afraid those days are gone.... Nevertheless, here we are now, ready to share some of the things the Butts have been up to.

Last weekend, we visited Caleb's parents in Decatur and we all loaded up and went Cave Hiking. Who knew that hidden in North Alabama, a rather large cave (home to 4 World Records when it comes to Caves) is tucked away in Scottsboro?

Here's a picture of Cathedral Caverns. We took a walking tour through the cave with about 25 other curious cavers. Our Tour Guide's name was Penny, and she had an extremely thick Redneck Accent and a love for Cave Jokes.

This is a pic of some rad stalagtites. I'm pretty much a Cave Expert after Penny's tour, so feel free to quiz me on Cave Trivia.

Also going on the Butts World is our love for The Office. Since I haven't blogged in a while, I have to express my love for Mose, Dwight's cousin/co-worker at the Beet Farm Bed and Breakfast.

Mose just may be the most fun new character, and I hope we get to see him more. Never before have we seen so much of our Office Buddies OUTSIDE the office! I love it and beg the producers for more. And I'm very glad Pam and Jim are still together. My deepest fear is that Karen will show up mid-season with a bun in the oven and claim Jim is the father. Jim, being the good guy he is, will marry her, leaving Pam with her love for art all alone in her secretary's chair. It would be unbearable. If it happens, just know that you heard it here first.

And finally, I leave you with a question. If you accidentally leave out chicken enchiladas all night, should you throw them out or just heat them up really good before eating them as left-overs? We're not sure...

While Dr. Shaffer is talking on and on about central tendency (median is best! no, mode is best!), I found this video of the greatest movie that most of us have never watched. I give to you, Cool Ethan from the movie Slackers. If you haven't watched this movie, do yourself a favor and rent it.

When Tricia first started teaching, she was always talking about this dance that the kids at school did and tried to show it to us (me and her parents) one night. It looked nothing like this, nor did the song sound like this (she said it was just "beats and then they yell 'Superman!'"). To be honest, she will admit that half the time, she has no idea what they're saying--particularly when they get excited. But I thought it was funny. Anyway, later, I actually saw the real dance, and now, apparently, all the college mascots are doing it.



And so are other plush, fake animals with people inside of them. I'm just saying, when Bully does this on Saturday, all you're going to be thinking about is Barney the Dinosaur--it's SUPER-DEE-DUPER!

Fun Mondays

Thanks to The Veranda, Mondays are no longer the most hated day of the week for us Butts. They have a special where you can get a basket of wings for $3. And those wings are good, my friend. Together, we put down 4 baskets and didn't get any sauce on our shirts. Meanwhile, I just want to share with the world our new favorite show.... "Chuck."

The Office will ALWAYS be numero uno in our hearts, but CHUCK is vying for 2nd place at the moment, tied with Desperate Housewives.

The funny thing about this picture is that the girl in the black shirt isn't in the show. I think this is an old promotional picture still lurking on the web. At any rate, check this show out on Monday nights at 7 pm. It has Kill Bill action and good laughs. I can't explain the plot line because it is too complex, so you are on your own on that one.
