Flea Party

So.... we have been introduced the wide world of fleas.

We first noticed them on PJ Joey because she was itching so bad that she was scraping her back against tree trunks and fence posts. We figured there must be some in the yard, so Caleb nuked the front and back yard with some type of grainy stuff, then we hit PJ Joey with a one-two- punch of topical ointment and pills. The fleas fell off her dead- amazing.

But then.

It's Thursday of last week and I'm standing on the carpet in the master bedroom getting some socks out of my drawers when I happen to look down at my feet. Oh there were probably about 5 fleas on each foot. I freaked, of course. I vacuumed each room- carpet and hardwood- and emptied out the little filter each time. Ne'er were there any fleas in the filter- even in the room we keep PJ Joey in. Weird. I save the master bedroom for last, went to empty the filter, and BAM! Flea City! They were jumping all over my arm. I freaked again, of course. So my side of the room is Ground Zero of Flea City. There were more fleas on MY SIDE of the room than in the DOG'S ROOM. Ew. (NOTE: I found out later that the previous owners kept their dog's bed there, which is now my side of the room. I think this is an important detail to note so that nobody thinks I'm a walking fleabag).

Sunday of last week, we leave bright and early for Starkville (we stayed in Mobile Saturday to attend the Brandi Carlisle concert- pics to come!) and set off 4 flea bombs in the house.

Tuesday morning, I leave Starkville very early to get to work in time. I get back to the flea bombed house. The fleas laughed at the bomb.

"Silly humans!" They taunted. "It's going to take more than that to get us out of your carpet!"

I call the Landlord, Mr. Keith, who is in his 90's and still runs his own Map Store. Yes, he sells maps. He said he would call an Exterminator.

Yesterday morning (Wednesday), a rape van pulls into my driveway with this advertisement on the side:

"007: Licensed to Kill" and the logo is the James Bond sillouhette but instead of Bond holding a gun, he's holding the extermination tank and hose. Hilarious. David, or "007" as I like to call him was extremely nice, courteous, and professional, and taught me a lot of good tips about fleas, all while exclaiming, "Yep! You've got a good crop here!" Ew.

Here is what I learned from 007:

1. NEVER underestimate the power of vacuuming. (Note: vacuuming hatches the eggs, though, so expect to see some friends after doing so...)

2. Keep a mothball in your vacuum bag or filter to kill the boogers after you suck them up.

3. The top three ways to eradicate fleas are as follows:
(1) Call 007, duh.
(2) Take up the carpet
(3) Vacuum. Never underestimate the power of vacuuming.

4. Fleas can hibernate up to one year. Ew.

5. Buy a small supply of concentrated eucalyptis (found at most health stores) and put two drops in a spray bottle (with water). Spritz this on your pet's paws when it comes in from playing outside. Most strains of fleas hate this.

I hope you found this post educational and useful. Let us all do our part in ridding the world of this terrible pest.

Happy Birthday Sadie Macon!

As mentioned earlier, Caleb waited with Will at the hospital for Sadie Macon's Birth Day. Sweet college friends...

How is it fair that Calen looks this beautiful after giving birth? I hope she doesn't mind I put this picture up... the Brantley family is gorgeous!
Look at Caleb's eyes- he totally has been bitten by the Baby Fever Bug. Hahahah- not even close thanks to the wild PJ Joey.

Look at SM's tiny little head! I love her. That's Jonette Wilburn in the background, by the way. Shout out to KD's!

Little Miss Brantley

Our friends The Brantley's welcomed a little girl into the world today: Sadie Macon Brantley!

We are so excited for them! Caleb has had a bag packed for over a week now so that when he got the call he could head right to Jackson! He better take some pics so I can see that little cutie-patootie! I'll post them soon.

Congrats Will and Calen! We love you and your sweet little Sadie!

Bear Paws

Here she is, friends....the one, the only... PJ Joey!

This picture does not do her ginormous legs justice. Just trust me that they are huge.

I was very proud of her yesterday, we met our neighbors who have the cutest three year old little girl, Belle, and she LOVES PJ Joey(and coloring with sidewalk chalk on our driveway). Anyway PJ Joey did pretty good with her AND she sat on command. She already knows how to sit, courtesy of spending two weeks with Aunt Molly in Starkville who steadfastly worked with her.

So because of these things, we feel like she is a genius dog. However, she defintely makes us wonder because she also runs into walls and gets her head stuck in between fence posts. Sunday morning, I was checking on her (in my bathrobe and hair in a towel turbin, no less), when I found her stuck in the fence. I still can't figure out how she managed to get her head wedged in there. Caleb had to unscrew a fence post off to get her out. It was kind of funny but pitiful so I respectfully didn't take a picture. At least she doesn't stick her head in the fence anymore.

I'll put some pictures of the new house and the wedding on Sunday up when I get a chance.

Big Weekend!

Friday- moving
Saturday- bringing home PJ Joey
Sunday- photographing a wedding

Now on to more important things:
Television.

American Idol- Go Kris Go! Ever since Adam tried to hypnotize me with his seductive "Ring of Fire" rendition, I have been very wary of him. However, I think Kris Allen is adorable and I love how his cute little wife adores him and I just love them! Go Kris Go! I may even vote!

LOST- my body went completely NUMB at the ending to Lost last night. No, really. I just stared at the screen, and then looked over at Caleb who was also just staring at the screen. If you haven't been watching Lost, I encourage you, NAY, I DEMAND that you somehow watch all previous seasons this summer and next fall in order to get caught up in time to watch the very last season which starts next January. I've spent two hours today on Lostpedia reading different theories and I have not gotten bored with it yet! This show is so stinking crazy amazing, I can't get over it.

The Office- I don't think Pam and Jim are getting married this season... bummer. I was really hoping for a wedding this season and a baby next season!

And I still have to say that I have not fully recuperated from Paula's performance and it was an entire week ago. I can't even look at her, I am so embarrassed for her.

Dear Crawfish, I love you, Sincerely Tricia

First of all, Caleb is DONE with his first year of Medical School! He just doesn't even know what to do with all this time he has on his hands. Fortunately, he can stay busy boxing up our apartment because we're moving into the house this week. Three cheers for Caleb on all his hard work this year!
We were invited to the Martin's for a big crawfish boil, and there is just too many great things to write about it. They are the best hosts and their house/yard is perfect. And their kids are so darn cute. Thanks Christina and Andy for having us! Anyway, I ate more crawfish than Caleb. And Caleb dared Gib to eat a crawfish tail and a brownie at the same time and he did it and it was really gross. Also, there were lemon squares on a platter with a cute little note that said something like, "Barb's Lemon Squares, made with lemons from her own garden." I want to be that lady some day- making delicious baked goods with ingredients from my garden.

Lastly, Caleb and I wore bored yesterday afternoon so we were just driving around. We drove past Ruby Tuesday and both saw the advertisement at the same time: 2 for 1 entrees. Were we hungry? No. Was it 4 in the afternoon? Yes. We both ate big for 10 bucks. Not bad. Thanks Ruby.
Ok for real lastly, I cannot shake Paula Abdul's HORRENDOUS performance out of my head. It was so GHASTLY! I'm just so embarrassed for her!

Go Seniors Go!

I drive by Mobile Christian School on my way to work everyday and today I was surprised to drive past this:
I'm guessing Senior Prank? I pulled off the road and into a subdivision to take this picture. How amazing is this? And it's only about one-fourth of the work. It brought back fond memories of rolling houses when I was in high school.

On to other things:

1. I would like to state for the record, that I do NOT ever want a face transplant.

2. Caleb has a test today, one tomorrow, then he is DONE with his first year! Three Cheers for Caleb, future Doctor Extraordinaire! (is that spelled right?)

3. Paula Abdul. Wow. That was every bit as terrible as I expected it would be.

4. Commercials for The Office indicate Jim and Pam are getting married tonight. I saw the teaser last week and have been counting down the minutes ever since.

5. Thank you Oprah, for the free KFC meal. We will enjoy that tonight while we watch Jim and Pam get hitched.

PJ Joey is coming home soon!

Here's a sneak peak at our first bundle of joy in the Butts Household!!! Dad and McRae are picking her up soon! (yes, it's a female. PJ Joey is a gender neutral name).

Doesn't she look like a PJ Joey!!!!!

This is PJ Joey's Mother. We're going to have a big dog on our hands- I can't wait! I will let you know when she is safe at home! I will probably have a Sip n' See as I will be treating her like a human child- only I don't think they make doggie clothes big enough for airedale terriers. Just kidding- I'm not going to buy dog clothes.

26 is all right.

I have changed a lot since I turned 26. Well, two things have changed really:

1. I have fully embraced the wearing of skinny jeans. I think what took me so long is that they are called skinny jeans, so I thought I needed skinny legs/thighs/butt to pull it off. I sported them a couple times in the winter with boots, but NOW I'm wearing them with sandals. I think that is the stylish thing to do because we went to the movies and all the high school girls were wearing their skinny jeans with flip flops or flats. I also saw a teenage boy wearing skinny jeans and I felt weird, but I decided he was the weird one not me. If you see me in them and I look terrible, you know what? Don't tell me. I'm happy with my new confidence in the skinny jeans.

2. This makes Caleb mad when I talk about it, but I have discovered the BEST way to be "green." It is so simple, I don't know why the celebs haven't picked up on it already. We went to Marble Slab last night and the girl behind the counter asked me, "Cup or Cone?"
I asked if cones were extra and she said no. BINGO. Get a cone, save Mother Earth.
I personally eat a LOT of ice cream, so instead of getting an evil styrofoam cup, I will now only get a waffle cone. I have decided that this is going to be the one way I contribute to "decreasing my carbon footprint." When someone asks me if I'm green, I am going to say, "yes, I always get a cone instead of a cup." Brilliant.

To finish this post, I wanted to show off this little cutie pie:
I took pictures for a family I met here in Mobile and I put the pics on the photography website if you want to check them out! (click here).
Let me know what you think!
