I just realized that I may not be a Domestic Goddess.

I was talking to a friend the other day about how it's hard to keep my house clean. I mean, I keep the basics clean, like beds made (actually Caleb does that), dishes washed (wait, Caleb does that too), garbage taken out (yep... still Caleb), and floors vacuumed (yay! apparently there is something that I do!).

But what is hard to keep up with is the dusting, toilets, bathtubs, and everything else. Back to my conversation with my friend, she said that she has trouble too and that she probably hasn't dusted at all this month.

Which got me thinking... when was the last time I dusted at all?

Answer: best estimate... at least a year.
I decided to actually dust something and turns out I didn't even have any of those little swiffer things. But hey, I figure if I've run out of them, then that means at one point I did dust.

It took two swiffer things to completely dust the house. Then the switch had been flipped and it was like seeing my house with new (clean) eyes.

Like this dead carnation a lovely student gave me for Valentine's Day. It's been dead for about 60 days now. It's still standing in the same murky water. Ew.
The thought occurred to me that I am either one of two things: lazy or dirty. Neither of these labels is good. I've had my lazy moments, but I would never want to believe I am overall lazy as a person.

And then, I certainly don't want to be dirty. Sassy D raised me better. I was never embarrassed to have friends over because we always had a clean house.

You can't tell from this picture, but I bought another gerber daisy to transplant into the big pot. All I did was stick it on top of the dirt. I did not co-mingle them together. LAZY!
This hook is where I have meant to hang a beautiful fern. Haven't gotten around to that yet.
I have a book called The Queen of Clean and she has a cleaning schedule. To my dismay, dusting is a weekly chore, not a once yearly chore. Guess what else she has as a monthly chore? Cleaning makeup brushes.

WHAT?

I have had the same blush brush since the 8th grade and have never cleaned it.  DIRTY!

I really have no excuse. Sometimes I wish we had kids just so I could blame a messy house on them.

"Oh! Please excuse our mess! The quads have been playing all day! I was too busy reading them the poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning to even notice how their blocks are strewn across the floor..."

(this will be an exact quote of something I will one day say because I want to have quadruplets (4 kids, one pregnancy = duh) and in my daydreams I read them poetry and then they snap their praise)

So.... all this to say that I am apparently super gross, but I have cleaned like a Tasmanian Devil today, so if you want to come over to our house, now is the time.  Except don't ask to borrow my blush brush because there is probably a family of dust mites living in the bristles.

Beach, Birthday, and SBW!

Oh, sweet Spring Break. How I miss thee.

We spent the week with our favorite Mobile family down at Santa Rosa beach and ate too much, played a lot of Super Mario, completely burned my scalp, slept late, and overall just had the best time ever.
At night, we'd go back to the beach and hunt for crabs. That's why my hair looks like it does when I'm on a mission trip. It is windy out there on that beach. The first night, we were merely amateurs in catching the crabs and only caught two.
The next night we got serious and caught a bucketful. In one exciting encounter, a wave came crashing in when we were all looking in the bucket and the bucket tipped over spilling out all the crabs. We ran screaming up onto the beach and I was so scared I was going to have crab pinchers on my legs that I nearly wet my britches.

Here's KR and I inside our spectacular sand hole.
We left the beach for Starkville... Super Bulldog Weekend, my birthday, and my friend's baby shower!
I came home with some pretty great finds from the Arts and Crafts festival that I'm really excited about too.

While I was shopping for arts and crafts, Caleb was judging the BBQ contest. He was one of the blind judges for pork shoulder. My dad was a blind judge for RIBS... lucky! I think it was the best day of Caleb's life. He even wore stretchy pants for his food judging debut.

On to the baby shower. I love my friends.
Sweet Baby Kate has my camera and she took this shot of all of us. Pretty good for a 3-year old! I have taken her on as my apprentice. She is booking weddings for 2016.
And we finished off this fantastic spring break with a SUGARLAND concert! Whoop Whoop!
Caleb's madre drove down and the Butts crew enjoyed a great concert.
Now Spring Break is but a near-distant dream. I returned to school this week knowing there are no more holidays until JUNE 1 which is our last day. It's the latest last school day I've ever had.
But we will make it!
I'm actually starting to like my students now, so 5 weeks doesn't sound terrible.

June 1 is also move in day to our new house. Millions of pics on that to come! But not any of the house from the outside. Caleb is certain that if I blog about where we live then we will undoubtedly be slaughtered in our sleep by an intruder. Better safe than sorry!

This is my attempt to post pictures taken from the ole iPad.

PJ Joey

House hunting is hard work!

Now that we know we are Mobilians for the next 5 years, we've been pretty busy looking at houses and figuring out mortgage information and hiring a realtor and other boring grown-up stuff.

Caleb is in the middle of a GREAT rotation. We're enjoying the time together while it lasts... when July arrives, it will be off to an 80 hour work week for him.

Spring is in the air, so that means I'm blessed with a good bit of photography sessions, which I LOVE! I've become a crazy person about advertising on facebook, so I'm sure you've been forced into seeing a bazillion links to new pictures. Sorry if it's become annoying. On the bright side, business has increases, so I guess it's working!

We are in the countdown to Spring Break, but until then, here are some new pics of our furry kiddo:
