Reason #37 why it's probably good I am not yet raising a child

I thought the Ice Cream Truck was playing RAP music.

Caleb and I were at the park jogging when I realized I was hearing rap music, but it was like it had been modified for an elevator or a grocery store. I looked around and realized it was coming from the Ice Cream Truck. Here is the conversation that followed:

Me: "CALEB! The Ice Cream Man is blaring out RAP music! This park is NOT that ghetto."
Caleb: "Huh? What song do you think is being played right now?" (straining his ear to listen carefully)
Me (singing along with the Ice Cream Truck Rap Song):
Does yo chain hang low
Do it wobble to the flo
Does it shine in the light
Is it platinum, Is it gold
Could you throw it over ya shoulda
If ya hot, to make ya cold
Do your chain hang low
Caleb: "Seriously???? Tricia, that was a children's song first.... Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro, can you tie it in a knot, can you tie it in a bow....

I was "so shamed" as my West Point kids liked to say.

Something New

I have a new blog if anyone would like to check it out:
www.bettydonnephotography.blogspot.com
I finally saved up enough for a "big time" camera and I must say I LOVE it! I have a lot of learning to do, but feel free to link the site to your own blog and check in from time to time!

First Day of School Pic Revised

The guys at Caleb's office at the SSRC in Starkville found the original picture on his first day of Med School and sent it to him. Classic.

Our First Car Purchase!

We weren't even looking to get a new vehicle for another year, but as a time-waster Saturday we test drove this 2002 Montero. Caleb made a ridiculously low offer and I thought they would be like, "Leave and never waste our time again!" but the little dealer man went to talk to his manager. We went back and forth for about 45 minutes until they came within $800 of our first low offer. Inside my body, I was screaming, "Take the deal! Take the deal!" (like on "Deal or No Deal") but Caleb said we really didn't need a vehicle right now anyway, that he would only take it for our original ridiculously low offer.... and we walked out the door, no new car.

Well, yesterday, they called Caleb back all in a panic because they had not sold ANY cars in the past three days and they were ready to go down to the low offer. Crazy, huh? We were half kidding in the first place- it was just a timewaster to begin with. So anyway, we paid in cash (we paid less than half of the sticker price) and drove off the lot with a new car we're really excited about! Saying by to Caleb's old explorer wasn't even that sad:)

No More SVU!

I've been enjoying my job as a Housewife this past week, but really looking forward to employment. In the meantime, I have been watching three hours of Law and Order: SVU everyday so naturally I think a predator is lurking behind every corner. This isn't so good when Caleb is tired and trying to sleep and I'm jumpy and asking him to do another "walk-thru."
Meanwhile, Medical School is in full gear and even I am learning a lot such as the 3 branches of amino acids. Caleb finds all this new medical stuff exciting and I find it disgusting and feign vomiting to get him to stop telling me all about it.
He met his group's cadaver on Tuesday, and leading up to this intimidating event I was helping him come up with good cadaver names to nominate for his group such as Gladys, Zorro, etc. Well, fast-forward into the lab when they uncover the cadaver for the first time. It is an older woman. Caleb asked the group what they wanted to name her, and the other guy in the group, being very serious, said, "I think we should call her 'Grace' as a daily reminder that we are all so blessed to be in Med School."

Well who's going to argue with that?

It is such a bad cadaver name in my book, though, because I happen to LOVE the name Grace and could easily see it being used in a double name for a little girl of mine one day. But not anymore, because now I will think of Caleb's cadaver.
So Caleb is busy with Med School these days (he had transcript duty last night and it took about 5-6 hours) and I am so NOT busy, being unemployed and all. I go to a park to jog everyday and there are these crazy-fit people that I call Machines. One of the Machines is a guy that laps me every three minutes on a .75 mile course. I don't know how it's possible. Another Machine is a new mother who runs with her baby in a stroller and LAPS ME! I would fee ashamed, except their Machine-like bodies are almost freakish, because where are their vital organs? They are too lean to be able to fit kidneys, livers, feet of intestines all in there. Plus, they probably have no joy in their lives because they have to give up all sugars and stuff like egg yolks to look like that.
I will keep eating dessert!

You're Hired!

So I am having a bit of trouble finding a job here in Mobile. No worries though because I have come across several opportunities I think are potentially life changing jobs:

1. Movie Extra-
Movie Extras Needed
Earn $100-$300 per day.
All looks, types & ages.
800-340-8404 x 2119

2. Oyster Shucker-
To: Pry Shell Open with Knife. Remove & Pack Oyster by Placing in Container. Place shell in a receptacle. Keep work area clean. Worker buys own knife.

3. Plasma Donator- GROSS!

Then there's the obvious flatbed truckers, doormen, etc. that you would expect to find. I would totally take the Oyster Shucker job, but I can't buy my own knife right now.

First Day of School

Caleb on his first day of Med School. I hope no bullies pick on him.

Move to Mobile

The move to Mobile has been pretty smooth. Our gas wasn't hooked up yet when we got here, so three days of ice showers was yucky. We had a sweet surprise when we drove up, though! Nana and Lewie ordered us a cookie bouquet which was especially great because we didn't have any food! Whoever thought up the idea of a cookie bouquet is genius.
