Shower Palooza 2010!

I have such great friends!

In Memphis this past weekend, I was blessed to be a part of a bridal shower for Katelyn, a baby shower for Laurette, and then Katelyn's bachelorette party that night! I've been waiting for others to put pictures on FB so I could snatch them for the ole blog, but no such luck. Unfortunately, I didn't really take any myself.

But overall... SO MUCH FUN! I have to say that for the bachelorette party, we had dinner at the seriously coolest place I have ever been to. It's called the Molly Fontaine Lounge in downtown Memphis, and your dinner party sits on swanky couches and funky chairs in rooms in an old Victorian home renovated into a lounge/ restaurant. I had a silly grin on my face the whole time because I felt so posh and boss-esque (word I picked up from a cool junior).

Laurette's baby shower was great too, and Jack pulled in a lot of swag! Can't wait to meet the little booger! I do have some pictures of it:

In other news, we Butts are doing splendidly. Caleb has a big test tomorrow, so he's been studying away. School is going good for me- I'm actually taking a group of kids to a speech competition tomorrow night at Univ. of South AL. They signed up voluntarily from my English class, which is impressive since getting teenagers to do anything on a voluntary basis is rare. They have to give a speech on this topic: "What is the biggest threat to social justice and how can we improve current conditions?"

WHAT?

I didn't even know what social justice was when I read the flyer. After much work (and googling), they have written some fine speeches and hopefully they will enjoy themselves at the competition. I'm glad it's them and not me, haha!

Weekend Adventures!

It's Caleb's Spring Break so we thought we would go on a big vacation to the beach for one day. We dug our suits out of storage, got our MSU tailgating chairs, fixed a cooler with snacks and beat the spring break rush traffic to the public beaches at Gulf Shores. We toted all our stuff out there and quickly noticed we were the only living things in sight.
Weird, but great for us, right? We will have the beach all to ourselves!
And then the wind picked up again and we realized why no one else was out there!

The hurricane-like winds were blowing stinging sand at us from all angles. We RAN back to the car and spent the next 5 hours at the Foley outlet mall. NOT a bad day:) We then ate dinner with our friends the McIntosh's at the Original Oyster House and it was amazing as usual!

Sunday came around and the SKAGGS dropped in for a visit! We took maternity pictures for Heather and it was so much fun! Caleb came along and he was a great assistant. If Med School doesn't work out, I'd hire him. Things were going swimmingly, until Heather and I realized that Caleb and Trey had both taken off their shirts and were posing for topless photos. So weird.



In Trey's defense, Caleb totally initiated the weirdness.

Professional Food Taster

Mom and Dad visited this past weekend. Dad was a Judge at the Gumbo-Chili Showdown that the Medical Students started last year. The contest benefits a scholarship for a student killed by cancer. I checked the website to see how much money was raised, but last year it was 20,000 bucks and I'm sure that number only increased this year.

Anyway, here is a play-by-play of Dad giving out the award for Best Gumbo.

It's a High School Miracle.

So we're having Grad Exams at school this week and I was put on the Hospitality Committee, meaning I helped feed the entire faculty and staff breakfast and lunch every day. Tasks included: picking up breakfast every morning at 6:15 am and helping pick up huge trays of lunch.

So today, the students finished very early and administration sent them to their 2nd block class, but I was still at Wal-Mart picking up lunch (40 pounds of fried catfish, thank you).

I literally sprint to my portable when I get back, knowing that 31 high school students have been unsupervised for 20 minutes and didn't know where their teacher was. Thinking back to my West Point days, I was wondering if they had set any fires, stolen something, or just LEFT class altogether.

But no. To my huge surprise, I opened the door to find every student sitting in their seat, and doing the bellwork on the board. WHAT? Are they ZOMBIES? I guess the good Lord just knew I could use some good kids this semester because I teach all ANGELS. It will never be this good again, I'm sure. I just couldn't believe they were unsupervised and were doing their WORK!
