Staff Development

So I'm officially a "Greenie" which is I guess short for the West Point Green Wave. Staff Development started this Wednesday, and I've been decorating my room and trying to figure out where the bathroom is ever since.

I have one car-pooling buddy so far, and we're hoping to add at least two more so that we each only have to drive one week a month. Talk about being Green! (haha, I'm punny). I have two different rooms, thus I'm a "floater" and I've only seen my main room, which I share with a retired principal who teachers two courses called: "Employability Skills." Where was that at good ole S.A.????

I'm a bit overwhelmed with everything I have to get done before students actually arrive, but I can't seem to focus on any one thing. Someone came in to show me something today and I was standing on a chair by the wall erasing pencil marks. I have no idea what I'm going to teach these kids that are to be our future, yet it seems I'm very concerned with pencil marks on the wall. YIKES!

I did get my door decorated today. It looks pretty cheesy. I'll try to take pictures pronto, but no making fun! I'm really sensitive with how "new kid on the block" I am!

My master schedule is:

1st and 2nd period: 9th grade Drama

3rd period: Planning

4th and 5th period: HS Drama

6th and 7th period: Public Speaking (Fall), Creative Writing (Spring)

Many prayers, please!:)

Oh good grief, I feel for you. Let me preface this with the statement that you'll not only survive, but do it with GUSTO. That said, it is going to be the hardest year ever you've had in yo life. We should talk soon.

I remember those first years of teaching in different schools and decorating the rooms and doors. I spent several of my years at the Amory Middle School where we had lots of bulletin board space to decorate. Being arty like my girls, mine always looked pretty good, but I usually had to do Melinda's as well since she could not draw a straight line.

You will do absolutely great, but I'll throw up a prayer just as insurance.

Good luck!

Trish the Dish.. you'll be awesome. I have a friend who coaches football at WPHS, and he also teaches at the Alternative School. I have a feeling, from his experiences, that this is going to be very very different for you (and from SA or even State)... please fill us in on details.

Oh yeah, my brother's advice for any starting teacher:
as soon as you get to school the first day, the first person who even thinks about crossing you should get thrown out of the class. Scare em. And you'll never have another discipline problem :)

my mom always says, "don't smile until Christmas." Be tough, Butts. Don't let them push you over. I agree with Anna...you must be firm. Just let them know you care and they will love you; how could they not? I will definitely be praying for you. If anybody can do, you can! Go get em!!!

TRICIA.

At least you have a classroom blog. That is, afterall, very important.

You will be GREAT I just know it.
They will love mrs. butts.

On a lighter note, lest I remind you to be thankful that you do not have a big butt? that would be nightmarish on the first day.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
