Our Mushroom Family

One interesting side effect from the monsoon rain brought on by TS Lee is a variety of mushrooms in all of our yards! I have never seen mushrooms like this anywhere my entire life.

I've had the best time kicking them over and examining them until Caleb informed me that by kicking them, I am merely spreading the spores all over the yard for more to grow.

Knowing that, I would like to extend a blanket apology to all the residents of Pinehurst neighborhood, because I have been kicking over mushrooms in other people's yards during my walks with PJJ.

I am no longer kicking them over, so when this one variety sprang up near our front door, I knew they would get nice and fat. I was not disappointed! I have been documenting their growth. Check it:
A week ago. Still in a cute stage.
Same day, but up close. I don't know if you can tell, but they share one very mysterious root system. Mushrooms fascinate me.
Two days later, and look how much they've grown!
And today. They are pancaking out. Caleb tells me he sprayed some type of poison on them.
Poor shroomies.

The fact that most people my age are blogging about their cute kids while I am following the progress of mushrooms is not lost on me.

Trica, I've been reading for a while and never commented, and what better time to speak than the mushroom post! I thought this was a great post, and I laughed out loud about the last part. If you are ever in Birmingham, you should let me know! It has been too long since I have seen you. Hope you guys are doing well.
